Viva the Alza

The Perodua MPV finds winning ways to give motorists what they want.

IT sells some 7,000 units every month, is relatively cheap and has ample room for five passengers. It has a preppy engine and looks smart. It’s not expensive to maintain and retains its resale value. It’s not surprising therefore that the Perodua Myvi is the best-selling car in the country.

But what the Myvi lacks is decent rear boot space – which is particularly felt during the balik kampung ride during the festive season, or as the kids in the family grow bigger and bigger.

The Perodua Alza can take up to seven passengers without too much of a squeeze.

Would making a bigger Myvi be a step in the right direction?

Absolutely, say the people at Perodua, who feel they have a found winning formula in the Alza, a multi-purpose vehicle launched on Monday.

Looking much like a stretched, raised and pumped up Myvi, the new MPV has three rows of seats and can seat seven – its key attraction.

Alza, which is Spanish for “rise”, is also synonymous with “amplify, enhance and heighten”. The vehicle is slightly higher than the Myvi and has been stretched by 455mm, Its wheelbase is also longer by 310mm; in fact, it is close to the Toyota Camry – a good indication of its interior space.

Perodua managing director Datuk Syed Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar says the Alza, with its flexible seating configuration, can be turned into a car with a big boot when you don’t need the extra back seats for seven passengers.

“It’s like Superman. It becomes that when you need it,” Syed Hafiz said at a media preview of the MPV in Putrajaya earlier this month.

The introduction of the Alza is part of the second national carmaker’s dynamic move to offer vehicles that meet current motoring trends.

With the average size of most Malaysian families shrinking to four from six, Syed Hafiz says the majority of its potential customers don’t actually need a huge MPV.

“It just has to be a vehicle with the right amount of interior space. A size that is too large will also make the MPV clumsy and difficult to drive on narrow roads,” he says.

The Alza shares its underpinnings with the Daihatsu Boon Luminas and Toyota Passo Sette seven-seaters. Under the bonnet is a twin camshaft with dynamic variable valve timing (DVVT) 1.5-litre engine code named 3SZ-VE, similar to the type in the Toyota Avanza and Perodua Nautica.

The nifty utility box behind the steering wheel for storing small items.

Tuned for fuel economy, the Azla’s power is rated at 104bhp at 6,000rpm or five horses short of the Avanza and Nautica’s 109bhp. However, its maximum torque of 136Nm is the same as that of theirs.

“As the Alza is not too heavy at 1.1 tonne, its power-to-weight ratio with a 1.5-litre engine is pretty good,” says Syed Hafiz.

Transmission options are the four-speed automatic and five-speed manual while trim levels are the Standard and Premium. Front and rear brake set-ups are discs and drums, respectively, on both grades.

Front suspension is the MacPherson type while the rear uses the torsion beam with stabiliser bar.

Inside, the Alza comes in grey and light grey, with a centrally located instrument cluster that features a trip computer with readouts of average fuel consumption and how far you can go before the tank empties.

The temperature gauge is missing but the fuel gauge, speedometer and tachometer are still there.

With its higher roofline, the Alza gets more headroom for an airier feel.

The gearshift for the automatic is console-mounted, while that for the manual is located on the floor between the driver and front passenger. This arrangement allows the automatic variant to come with bench-type front seats with a 60:40 split, a feature rarely found in locally available MPVs.

In essence, the front passenger can slide over to the driver’s seat without having to get out of the MPV – useful when taking over the wheel after dropping someone off.

In our opinion, the third row seats are more suitable for children although adults can squeeze in there.

Sleek, streamlined and downright trendy!

The second row seats are fitted on rails and can slide forward by 150mm to provide more legroom for third row passengers.

What’s more, the three rows of seats can be folded for a flat configuration.

Cup and bottle holders are scattered around the MPV, on the door pockets and armrests.

Although not equipped with air-conditioner vents for the second and third row seats, Perodua claims that the Alza has a more powerful cooling coil and blower fan than the Myvi.

“We have conducted tests and can say that third-row passengers will have enough cool air, even on hot days,” says Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd operation director Ahmad Suhaimi Mohd Anuar.

In addition, the Alza gets all-round ultraviolet protected glass that cuts down UV rays by 91%.

At the media preview, we get to try out both automatic and manual variants at Putrajaya. With four persons on board, performance on an uphill slope is still adequate but one has to remember that this is an MPV, and the engine needs to be revved a bit more.

Once speed has built up, however, little effort is needed to keep the vehicle on the move. The five-speed manual gives us a gutsier performance since the better spaced gear ratios allow for better use of the engine powerband.

The clutch pedal is not heavy and we reckon it won’t tire out our left foot when inching through a traffic jam.

According to Perodua, the Alza with automatic transmission promises a low fuel consumption of 12.7km per litre of petrol or roughly 14 sen per km on RON95 fuel. The manual variant is even more frugal – 15.5km per litre of fuel.

Available features across the Standard and Premium grades are headlights with projector elements, grille with chrome garnishing, LED tail lights and 185/55/R15 tyres.

The Premium variant has additional features like dual front air bags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist, fog lights, tail spoiler, audio system with Bluetooth/USB support and leather steering wheel with audio controls.

The trunk comes with a luggage lamp, an item that is sorely lacking in Myvis.

Available colours are solid Ivory White and metallic Medallion Grey, Glittering Silver, Ebony Black and Pearl White. The Premium variant gets the additional metallic Classy Purple.

Prices on the road start at RM56,000 for the Standard manual to RM64,000 for the Premium automatic.

The Advanced variant – delivery of which starts in March – will cost RM6,000 over the Premium version and will feature additional goodies such as body kits, leather seats, tinted windows, a satellite navigation system and reverse camera.

Daihatsu Begins Sales of the New Compact Car ALZA in Malaysia

PHOTO (select to view enlarged photo)

OSAKA, JAPAN – November 24, 2009: Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (Daihatsu) announced today that it has, together with Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) its Malaysian automobile production and sales joint venture company located in Selangor, Malaysia, begun sales of a new compact car, the ALZA. An event to mark the launch of the ALZA was held in Kuala Lumpur in the evening of November 23.

PHOTO (select to view enlarged photo)

The ALZA, based on the compact passenger vehicle Boon Luminas in Japan, was developed under an R&D project led by Perodua to meet the diversifying needs and higher demand for compact cars in the Malaysian market, targeting the MPV and 3-box segments that are not fully covered by the Myvi and Viva alone. The monthly sales target is 3,500 units and the manufacturer's suggested retail prices range between RM56,000 and RM64,000 (approximately 1.45 to 1.66 million yen).

PHOTO (select to view enlarged photo)

Origin of the ALZA name

The "ALZA" vehicle name is based on the Spanish word "alzar," which means to raise, boost, or lift, thus designating a vehicle that "enhances your lifestyle."

Perodua is Malaysia's second national auto manufacturer and has expanded its product lineup, with a focus on compact cars. With the cooperation of the Malaysian government, Perodua has worked to raise its cost competitiveness and enhance quality, as well as that of its suppliers, and has expanded its business also through production of the Avanza under contract from Toyota and exported the Myvi to Indonesia.

Perodua MD: New Alza will be top-selling MPV

Alza launched

KUALA LUMPUR: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) is confident its newly launched Perodua Alza will be the top-selling multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in 2010.

Managing director Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar said Perodua was targeting to sell between 3,500 and 4,000 units of the model per month, adding that it had already received 3,500 bookings for the Alza since Nov 13.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin viewing the Perodua MPV Alza by accompanied by Perodua chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin(left), MD Datuk Syed Hafiz(right) and PMSB MD Osamu Oaki((2nd right) during the official launch of the MPV at the KL Convention Centre

“Based on our target of 4,000 units a month, it should be the highest (selling MPV),” he told a press conference before the launch of Alza yesterday.

Hafiz said he expected the local MPV segment to grow to 30% of total industry volume in 2010 compared with 10%–11% currently.

He said the Alza was targeted at young families and urban singles, adding that the bulk of the pre-launch orders were for the automatic variants.

The Alza is available in standard, premium and advanced variants. All variants are available in both manual and automatic transmissions.

With a starting price of RM56,000, the Alza (which means “to rise” in Spanish) is the cheapest MPV in the market. The vehicle maker will in March launch the advanced variants, priced at between RM67,000 and RM70,000.

Asked about the potential impact of Proton Holdings Bhd’s newly launched Exora Basic variant, which has a starting price of RM57,548, Hafiz said: “I don’t think it would affect us significantly.”

“We did a survey and found that 30% of the respondents would purchase an MPV if it was affordable,” Hafiz said.

As of October 2009, Perodua had sold 138,000 vehicles compared with 142,000 units a year earlier. It currently commands a 31.1% market share of TIV.

Hafiz said the Alza would boost its market share to 31.5% of an estimated TIV of 520,000 units by the year-end. Perodua expected its market share to reach 33.3% next year when the TIV was projected to hit 530,000, he added.

Currently, Myvi and Viva account for 55% and 41% respectively of Perodua’s sales. Hafiz said the vehicle maker was on track to achieving RM7bil sales this year.

For 2010, Hafiz said the Alza would contribute 28% to total sales, with Myvi and Viva contributing 40% and 32% respectively.

NEW PERODUA ALZA.....ON THE ROAD SOON!

Perodua MD Datuk Syed Hafiz has previously indicated that the Perodua MPV (codenamed Perodua D46T for now) will be sold with a price tag of between RM57k to RM66k and a launch date has been set for somewhere in Q3 this year, which would be anywhere between July to September.

A Youtuber spotted this disguised Perodua MPV at the Sungei Buloh Restoran Jejantas carpark on Thursday, just one day after the launch of the Proton Exora. The flow of the video is somehow quite convenient really, first you get to see it parked next to a Wira, then it reverses and drives past a Viva, giving us a good comparison of its size compared to other cars that we see daily.

It has already been previously spotted in Malaysia from as early as April this year (check out Perodua MPV photo and video spyshot) and Perodua has also exhibited the Perodua MPV’s interior in Johor.
These 3 shots of the new Perodua D46T MPV, which apparently is being displayed in near full glory at the Minggu Amanah Saham 2009 in Johor Bahru.

Air conditioning controls have been changed from automatic climate control with an LCD panel to a manual 3-knob version that looks like it shares parts with the Toyota Vios.
Quite interestingly these shots show a dashboard that has its dash-mounted shifter very intact – it’s not been moved to the floor! So that’s nice. The dash has a two tone design, dark att the top and beige at the bottom, with some form of integrated audio head unit with steering wheel audio control on the steering wheel.
The front seats are joined together (not the backrests though) as a single bench, and the arm rest in the middle looks like it can be flipped up to become a small backrest for the middle area.

Given how many Malaysians think long and hard between the Persona and the Myvi as if they were in the same segment when they are actually not because of similiar pricing, this new Perodua MPV could pose a real threat to the new Proton MPV for those who just must have a “Toyota”, whether with a Perodua badge or not.
An indicated price for the Japanese market car is between 1.45 million yen to 1.8 million yen, which is about RM57k to RM70k, so that should give you guys an idea how much a localised version would cost. Don’t expect things like the column shifter you see in the brochure above to make it into the Perodua version as the Passo also had that but it got switched to a traditional shifter between the seats for the Myvi.

The upcoming Perodua MPV is still pretty far off, set to roll off the production lines only in September 2009, but here is a rendered speculation by Theophilus Chin of how it will might look like. Based on an existing Toyota compact MPV, the styling for this three row MPV rendering is largely based off the Perodua Viva.
Perodua CEO Datuk Hafiz mentioned in an interview with The Edge Weekly earlier this year that we should think of the new Perodua MPV as a smaller Toyota Wish that will have three rows and sit 6 people comfortably (probably not 7 because of a Perodua’s typically compact size and thus reduced width).
It will be based on the recently announced new Indonesian-based MPV model that was announced in March this year and is currently still under development by Toyota and Daihatsu. Perodua will apply its own styling onto the model.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG to cost 177,310 Euros

Technorati Tags: ,

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

Wanna know how much you’ll have to fork out for a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG if you’re in Europe? The car itself is sold at 149,000 Euros but you’ll actually have to pay an additional 19% VAT which brings the price up to 177,310 Euros. That’s about RM 892k, excluding the kind of crazy taxes you’ll have to pay to bring such a vehicle into Malaysia.

I’m not sure if Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will be bringing in and supporting this car but you can pretty much get anything at Naza Auto Mall if you have sufficient bank balance for it.

But here’s the thing, even at that astronomical price and with the SLS AMG being a single model car, you won’t be getting the best and most expensive SLS AMG out there. There is a whole list of expensive options that you can add to the car, including some ridiculously expensive ones like a carbon fiber engine cover going for over 4000 Euros, which makes it over RM20k. That’s nearly the price of a basic Perodua Viva here in Malaysia.

  • AMG ceramic composite high-performance braking system: €9500 net/ €11,305 gross
  • AMG performance suspension with a stiffer setup for optimum lateral dynamics: €1200 net/€1428 gross
  • AMG light-alloy wheels in a 5-twin-spoke design, size 9.5 x 19 inches (front) and 11.0 x 20 inches (rear), tyre sizes 265/35 R 19 (front) and 295/30 R 20 (rear): €950 net/€1130.50 gross
  • AMG forged wheels in a 10-spoke design, size 9.5 x 19 inches (front) and 11.0 x 20 inches (rear), with tyre size 265/35 R 19 (front) and 295/30 R 20 (rear): €2000 net/€2380 gross
  • AMG performance steering wheel in leather/Alcantara: €400 net/€476 gross
  • AMG sports bucket seats: €3300 net/€3927 gross
  • AMG carbon-fibre engine compartment cover: €4000 net/€4760 gross
  • “AMG alubeam silver” paint finish: €10,000 net/€11,900 gross
  • “AMG monza grey magno” paint finish: €3250 net/€3867.50 gross
  • AMG carbon-fibre trim (front stowage tray and rear stowage compartment including lid, AMG DRIVE UNIT surround, surrounds for the centre console, shiftgate and rear, trim strips for centre console and door armrests): €3500 net/€4165 gross
  • AMG interior carbon package (carbon-fibre trim, trim on seat backrests and sides, door sill panels): €3500 net/€4165 gross
  • Leather nappa exclusive single-/two-tone: €2500 net/€2975 gross
  • Memory package with electric seat and steering column adjustment, as well as four-way lumbar support: €1225 net/€1457.75 gross
  • 6-disc DVD changer: €660 net/€785.40 gross
  • Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG surround sound system: €5900 net/ €7021 gross

The SLS AMG is an AMG car – there is no non-AMG ‘basic’ version out there and it’s supposed to be a halo flagship model. I understand if you have to pay a little more for in-car entertainment upgrades like the B&O system or the DVD changer but I’m wondering why things like an “AMG performance steering wheel” has to be a 400 Euro option.

I’m assuming its an upgrade from a standard steering but does that mean what you get as a standard steering is “non-AMG” or “non-performance”?

Cherry QQ versus Viva

The Chery QQ (codename S11) is a city car produced by the Chinese manufacturer Chery Automobile since 2003. In 2006, the car was renamed the Chery QQ3 in China, when Chery launched their new supermini, the Chery QQ6.

Engine

The QQ is available with the following two gasoline-powered engines (both EURO III compliant):
0.8 L SQR372 I3 DOHC 12v — 38 kW (51 hp) at 6000 rpm, 70 N·m (52 lb·ft) at 3500 rpm
1.1 L SQR472F I4 DOHC 16v — 50 kW (67 hp) at 6000 rpm, 90 N·m (66 lb·ft) at 3500 rpm

Copyright controversy

The QQ became the center of an industrial copyright and intellectual rights controversy, as General Motors claimed the car was a copy to the Daewoo Matiz (which is marketed outside South Korea as the Chevrolet Spark). GM executives demonstrated the extent of the design duplication, noting for example that the doors of the QQ and those of the Spark are interchangeable without modification.
GM China Group indicated the two vehicles "shared remarkably identical body structure, exterior design, interior design and key components. MotorAuthority.com and Car and Driver called the QQ a "carbon copy", while the International Herald Tribune, in a 2005 article, referred to it as a clone.
Looking at this controversy on a global stage, the Detroit News reported that "the dispute reflects the confusion, risks and ambitions in China's new auto industry, where global carmakers are battling pugnacious upstarts for a piece of what may become the world's largest auto market.

Safety

Though the Chery QQ and the Chevrolet Spark are similar cars, their safety ratings differ from each other. A Euro NCAP front offset crash test showed that the driver's injuries in the QQ are worse than those sustained in the Spark. Upon impact, the QQ driver will most likely suffer severe (possibly fatal) trauma in the head, neck and chest areas, while the Spark driver will at most receive a moderate head injury.

Global markets

Iran

In Iran, the Daewoo Matiz had been assembled by local company called Kerman Khodro since the year 2000 in a joint venture with Daewoo. However, upon being acquired by GM following its 2001 bankruptcy, Daewoo stopped supplying CKD kits to Iran due to a ban imposed by GM. As a result, Kerman Khodro licensed the Chery QQ as a replacement and put it into production at their subsidiary MVM.

Singapore

The QQ is sold in Singapore and is one of the cheapest cars in the city state.

South Africa

Four QQ3 models are available in South Africa since May 2008 and was the cheapest car when launched.

Thailand

QQ cars are available in Thailand since 2009. This car is not the cheapest car in the country due to high tariffs (not built in Thailand or an ASEAN country, but import from China). Its non-Japanese competitors are Naza Forza, Proton Savvy and Kia Picanto.

Vietnam

The QQ is the cheapest car in Vietnam.

In Malaysia, Cherry QQ also available.

Hyundai i10 versus Perodua Viva - Compact wars!

Technorati Tags: ,,

Here Comes The New Challenger!
Hyundai Sime-Darby Motor has launched the new Hyundai i10 5-door hatchback in Malaysia. The i10 replaces the Atos in the Hyundai global line-up but in certain countries like India, both the Atos (Santro) and the i10 is offered, with the latter being the more premium product. In fact, the i10 we get here comes from India where both the Atos and i10 are very very popular products, instead of Korea.
All the basics that will make the new Hyundai a popular runabout are there: a small luggage space extendable via the foldable rear seats and a 4-speed automatic. It chugs along via a 1.1 liter Epsilon family engine (sadly not the new Kappa 1.2 liter) putting out 65.8 horsepower at 5,500rpm and 99.1Nm of torque at a lower than usual 2,800rpm which should allow it to feel pretty zippy around town.
Safety features include a 4-star Euro NCAP body, dual SRS airbags and anti-lock brakes. In-car entertainment is an integrated 2-DIN audio CD player with MP3 and aux input support. The interior is rather monotonous and basic with endless fields of grey but there is a slight touch of “high-end” thanks to the dash-mounted shift lever instead of it being in the conventional position between the two front seats.
So you have decent safety specs, an acceptable level of in-car entertainment, an automatic gearbox, an engine that puts out peak torque at a low-mid RPM, and a price under RM50k. This should theoretically be very popular with city dwellers, especially since its claimed to have a 17.2km per liter combined fuel economy. It’s also got nice styling, being the first Hyundai car in Malaysia with the new naming scheme and design language that debuted with the i30. But Malaysians are just too brand conscious.
The 4-speed auto model retails for RM48,888 OTR with insurance and comes with a 5-year (300,000km) warranty. It is available in five colours: alpine blue, blushing red, stone black, sleek silver and champagne gold. A 5-speed manual version (that is claimed to get 20km per liter) is also available but strangely Hyundai’s press kit does not mention its price. This story will be updated later when the price is available.
The badging on the car is a little confusing but somehow expected. It has a combination of both Inokom and Hyundai logos and badges around the car.

Perodua unveils new MPV to media, expects record sales

PUTRAJAYA: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) is projecting record sales next year as its new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) is expected to see brisk sales of at least 3,500 units a month, said managing director Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar.

The company expects to sell 162,000 cars this year after hitting a record 168,000 units in 2008.

However, the improvement in the economy and demand for automobiles, especially its latest model, has left Perodua feeling optimistic about sales in 2010.

Speaking after unveiling the MPV to the media yesterday, Syed Hafiz said the company’s internal surveys showed there was a big demand among Perodua customers for an MPV and one that was competitively priced and fuel efficient.

Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar says the company’s internal surveys showed there is a big demand among Perodua customers for a MPV

“With this new model, the oldest model in our line-up will be the Myvi,’’ he said.

The Myvi was launched in 2005, followed by the Viva in 2007.

Helping its projections for next year is the better sales performance expected in the fourth quarter of this year whereby 38,207 cars are expected to be sold compared with 36,945 in the final quarter of 2008.

Production of the MPV is slated at 4,100 units a month, a number which Syed Hafiz also hopes would be the monthly sales.

The MPV is priced at between RM56,000 and RM64,000 and will be officially launched on Nov 23.

The public can start placing their orders for the new MPV from Nov 13.

Perodua Viva Elite - Review

Following the retirement of the Kancil, Perodua is now giving greater attention to the Viva, its smallest model which takes over from the company’s first model. The line-up has been broadened with the recent addition of the RM24,900 Viva BX at the low end and also a 1-litre automatic version, the cheapest car with an automatic transmission in Malaysia at RM36,500.
This afternoon, the company unveiled another version – the Viva Elite – which takes its place at the top end of the range. Priced between RM37,900 and RM44,900, the Viva Elite not only has extra features but also bodywork enhancements.
Apart from being aimed at those who want a better-equipped Viva, the new version is also expected to appeal to those who like the equipment level of a Myvi but do not want that model and prefer something smaller.
The exterior appearance of the Viva Elite will identify it immediately as it has a 2-bar grille with chrome trim on top and below, a more distinctive front bumper and a different bonnet. The bonnet has a raised section in the middle and is an entirely different pressing from the bonnets of the other Viva versions. It’s interesting that Perodua was willing to invest in an extra mold just to stamp a different bonnet for a version that is to sell 2,600 units a month. And according to a Perodua source, there are no plans to offer this bonnet on other versions in future as they want to keep the Elite version exclusive.
Notable exclusive items for the Viva Elite are integrated foglamps in the bumper, 14-inch alloy rims with an exclusive 12-spoke design (spare tyre is a skinny space-saver type), a new seat fabric, side skirts, chrome door handles, a painted centre console panel and special glass which reduces the entry of hot ultra-violet sunshine rays by 91%. The audio system includes a CD-player with mp3/WMA compatibility
For the Viva Elite EZi, which has automatic transmission, additional items include a rear roof spoiler and pushbutton retractable door mirrors.
The mechanical aspects are similar to the other 1-litre Vivas, ie the engine is a 3-cylinder DOHC 12-valve unit with Dynamic Variable Valve Timing (DVVT) and Electronic Fuel Injection. It’s a well-proven engine already powering a large proportion of the 144,500 Vivas already on Malaysian roads.
All four colour choices - Solid White, Silver, Pearl Jade and Metallic Black- for the other Viva versions are also available for the Viva Elite and additionally, this version gets an exclusive colour, Metallic Midnight Blue.

Comparison of the Perodua Viva & myvi

Now I know the range of Perodua Viva thinking of going to buy some Perodua 1000cc instead of considering the purchase of premium top myvi. So, I'll do a little comparison here. If you will add something to contribute to the debate and please post a comment.

Power

Interestingly, it is a 1.0-liter Perodua myvi of the DVVT ej - VE engine torque than a larger Perodua Viva DVVT ej is the same as the VE is expected to be 1.0 liter engine. Contrast, only 1.0 liters of myvi 3,600 rpm Viva is 88 nm min, 3,600 rpm with torque of 90nm to defend - if 2Nm only minor differences.

Since then, myvi 1.0 Perodua Viva 1.0 liters a clear winner in terms of power / weight ratio, so that, myvi 1.3 instead of 1.0 Viva let's compare premiums. myvi 1.3 955 kg weight is 86 to hold the horsepower. This is the power per kilogram weight ratio of 0.09 hp. What Perodua Viva Premium 1000cc, 60 kg weight and 800 horsepower to remove - there are 0,075 power per kilogram weight-horsepower ratio.

So we can conclude that in a drag race, the Viva won’t be able to smoke it’s larger sibling in stock form. That doesn’t mean the Viva is terribly slow – in a previous supermini shootout done together with folks at NST Life & Times, I found that the Myvi effortlessly smoked other superminis with larger 1.5 liter engines.

Another note is that Perodua myvi is 1.3 liters 4-cylinder engine and four-cylinder engine is smoother and more three-cylinder engine found in Perodua Viva are using more. This is the end, perhaps, you are in the chassis and steering wheel feels that in many other respects the three-cylinder vibration.

Fuel

Perodua's own charts gasoline per 1 liter 1000cc Premium Perodua Viva 17.5 kilometers, according to combined cycle, I need to drive in a lot of leg crossing and motorway light travel of the suspect. This is a manual transmission. 17.1 liters of gasoline per myvi manual to be evaluated as 1.3 kilometers. 14 kilometers per liter to about 13 people on the streets of our own myvi 1.3 is actually very similar fuel consumption to the actual distance of the report documentation, if the economic entity.

An automatic transmission, 1.3 liter per kg Perodua myvi 5.3 auto can get, as a word, an average man is usually one is about 10-11 km per liter. Compared to the 1.0 liter automatic Viva, Perodua can get 15.1 kilometers per liter, so that in the real world there was one of about 12 kilometers per liter.

Thus we can assume the Viva automatic should be a little more frugal than the Perodua Myvi automatic, but for the manual transmission models actual fuel economy should prove to be about the same.

Space

The Perodua Viva is actually longer in the interior than the Perodua Myvi at 1845mm compared to the Perodua Myvis 1835mm, but a great margin narrower. Having a long interior is important, it ensures the rear passenger legroom is at comfortable levels, just like the Perodua Myvi’s. However, being narrower the downside is you can’t really fit 3 people in the rear bench comfortably, making the Perodua Viva more of a 4-seater than a 5-seater. The Viva’s boot is only 149 liters with the rear bench upright compared to the Myvi’s 255 liters, significantly smaller, however you can extend this size by dropping the rear passenger bench to create a 449 liter space.

Ride and handling

Nothing much can be said about the Perodua Myvi’s handling abilities other than the fact that it’ll probably get you to work and back safely. From what I’ve heard from some journalists who’ve driven the car, I think I shouldn’t expect much of the Viva’s either. Which is a shame as the Kelisa was a somewhat fun drive. Many will miss the Kelisa’s zippy DNA which is reportedly missing in the new Viva. If you want a driver’s small car, go get the Proton Savvy.

Equipment level

One thing I am concerned about is the lack of an integrated CD player head unit in the Perodua Viva, which means Viva owners will have to be careful about where they park their cars lest their mirrors get smashed and their head units stolen. However, this means the CD player can be easily swapped.

The equipment level of the Perodua Viva 1.0 liter standard is disappointing to be honest, not even proper alloy wheels are supplied, instead you are given steel wheels. This means a difference of roughly RM4k on average gets you airbags, ABS, proper alloy wheels, wing mirrors with signal lamps, roof spoiler, and etc. I’m really not sure if it’s worth it or not – I’ll leave it up to you.

The Perodua Myvi on the other hand has just about everything you need in the baseline 1.3 liter model. It also feels more premium because of an interior design that looks abit more higher grade, as well as Optitron-style meters which are self illuminating, unlike the backlit meter clusters of the Perodua Viva.

Security

Both the Viva Premium and Myvi Premium have dual airbags, ABS brakes - the usual. 2005 Daihatsubun four years - for the protection of the euro adult stars in NCAP crash test scores Perodua myvi was the cousin of the Japanese during the crash test results of the previous generation Daihatsumira, Perodu Viva 3 - star Scores are based on hotel management.

So, Perodua Viva 1000cc Premium Auto Metallic RM44, 200, or Perodua myvi 1300cc Premium metal RM49, 315.80 in? This is about 000 ~ RM5 big difference engine is a little more power, fuel consumption, frugality, large interior, large vessels will be reduced slightly.

For me the boot space is not important - when you use the boots for both serious, a little below the back seat, put the.

Payments from A to B segment, the extra RM5, 000 move the segment itself, rather save money or what?

KUCHING: Two clubs for cars by national automakers held a joint event at a local cafe last Saturday. The Satria Neo Club and Perodua Viva Club Kuching Division joint gathering was the first of its kind to be held.

“Activities such as the one held today (yesterday) are aimed at getting to know all the club members from both clubs and to exchange ideas and opinions on our vehicles,” said Satria Neo Club Kuching division president Ahmad Zikrilah Abdullah.

He said the Satria Neo Club Kuching became active last year, with members all over the county and over 40 registered members in Sarawak.

“By joining our club, Satria Neo owners can have access to all sorts of benefits, and among them are technical support, activities such as convoys, charitable events and a lot more,” he said.

He added that the club will join Proton’s roadshow in future.

Meanwhile, Perodua Viva Club Kuching Division president Hasdi Lamat called on more Viva owners to join the club.

“Our club will be having a technical workshop soon, where an expert will help the members who wants to sort out technical issues with their Viva,” said Hasdi.

The club which also began last year has 27 registered members in Kuching and over 60 throughout Sarawak.

“Our next event would be a visit to the Perodua Service Workshop, aimed to educate members on the technical aspects of not only their cars, but all Perodua models as well.

“Our club is registered under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, so we have the full support from the government to conduct our activities,” he added. Both car clubs are planning to organise a charity drive in the near future. For more information go to www. satrianeoclub.com or www. peroduavivaclub. com.
